I am Maggi Garfield, a fashion and culture historian and writer with extensive journalism, media and research experience based in Berkshire and London. My areas of interest include women’s experiences and subcultures particularly those encompassing the intersectionality of glamour, transgression and the study of material culture.

Years of working in true-life journalism enforced my belief in the importance of oral histories and amplifying hidden voices. My passion for material and media history has led to an extensive personal archive of vintage clothing, magazines and books to draw from in my research. Items from my collection were featured in the Biba exhibit at the Fashion and Textile Museum and I am currently working on a book exploring the lived experiences of the Biba shop girls as a lens to view the female experience of the sixties and seventies. I hold an MA in Fashion Culture and Histories from the London College of Fashion where my focus was on the cultural production of the Studio 54 demimonde and the fashion photography of Ara Gallant. Years of practical journalism work and archival research has resulted in a particularly rigorous and inventive approach.
